Nothing Wasted by the Powhatan People by Kaison Jan (G3) Nothing Wasted by the Powhatan People By Kaison Jan Grade 3 “Flash! Boom!” That was the sound of the Powhatan people building strong tools from the deer’s strong antlers. The Powhatan people used natural resources like trees, corn, and deer to make resources like food, tools, shelter, and wooden tools. They tried not to waste any of the Earth’s important resources. The Powhatan people had to use nature’s resources because there were no shops or any money. The Powhatan people used trees for a lot of things. According to the text, they used trees for shelter, canoes, plates, fuel, and in making wooden tools. They wasted almost nothing. They used canoes to get fish from the rivers, seas, and streams. The Powhatan people used wooden plates for putting fish or any more food they found on them. They used wooden tools, such as axes, to chop trees. Finally, they used trees to make shelters to live and stay in. Next, the Powhatan people used corn for many things. They used corn for making dolls, baskets, food, and toys. This was one of their main foods they ate. We might eat corn daily, but the Powhatan people probably did not. The Powhatan people considered corn very important In addition, the Powhatan people hunted deer in order to survive. The Powhatan people killed and ate deer because they needed food, clothing, tools, and carpets. They used the deer’s strong antlers to make sturdy and strong tools to chop wood, hunt, and attack animals. The Powhatan would sometimes use deerskins to make carpets to sleep on or use them as comfortable blankets. They used clothing to wear and sometimes used it as cloth In conclusion, the Powhatan people used the Earth to get resources and to survive. If the Powhatan people were to come to the future, it would properly surprise them, at the big planet change. They would think that because now there were shops, technology, and many other things that the Powhatan people did not have in the past. The Powhatan used all the resources and showed that they were grateful by not wasting resources. If you were a Powhatan person who lived in the past, do you think you could have survived the difficult, hard, harsh lifestyle?
