Good Friends Good Friends By Celia, Grade 4August 2022 Friends are important. Especially when you need help. A good enough friend would help. In “Zel The Gentle Donkey,” Touloulou is a loyal friend, because he/she said he would help Zel, and he helped quite a lot: Madame Charity became kind, and she was more gentle to Zel. Madame Charity also kept her anger to herself. One quality of a good friend is helpfulness. Zel was loyal to Madame Charity, because she works really hard all day, but Madame Charity was still the meanest to Zel. Touloulou met up with Zel, and said he/she would help. Touloulou helped a lot. He/she changed Madame Charity by letting her (Madame Charity) noticing how everyone was kind to her and offered to help. “‘Madame Charity’s mad at me all day,” Zel replied. “I work as hard as I can, but then she is always mean to me.’ ‘Madame Charity is always late. She won’t blame herself, so she blames you,’ said Touloulou. ‘Yes, and because everyone is afraid of her angry tongue, she never sells much at the market.’ ‘I will help you,’ said Touloulou.” When Madame Charity was going to yell or say something mean, Touloulou would pinch Madame Charity. In “The Good Fortune Kettle,” the Badger was helpful. He turned into a kettle, and when the Junk Man found out the kettle was the Badger he’d set free, the Badger suggested they make some money using him (the kettle/Badger). Another quality of a good friend is thoughtfulness. Touloulou is a thoughtful friend too, because she/he helped Zel. Madame Charity wouldn’t sell much at the market because she was so angry and mean, so on the ride home, she could’ve also blamed Zel for not selling much. Madame Charity wasn’t the type of person who would keep their anger to themselves. She would explode out onto the nearest person, and Zel was always by her side, so she would “pour” all her anger “onto” poor innocent Zel. Touloulou is a loyal friend, because he not only saved Zel from being scolded again, he also helped make Madame Charity more kind, so she sold more at the market. In “The Good Fortune Kettle,” The Junk Man set free a badger from a trap. In return, the badger turned into a teakettle and hid in the basket. The Junk Man had the kettle in his possession two times. The second time, the Badger was thoughtful by suggesting that they go make some money, and didn’t run off to continue to live his life. A third quality of a good friend is loyalty. Loyal friends would help they friend with anything, as long as they think they can help. Dogs are loyal, so that’s why my dog is my best friend. Touloulou said he would help Zel, and he did. That’s what loyal friends do. I’d say Touloulou and Zel were best friends, but then many people loved Zel, so animals could also be part of it. Then Touloulou’s best friend could be Zel, but Zel’s best friend could be someone else. In “The Good Fortune Kettle,” the Badger stayed loyal to the Junk Man because he helped the Junk Man make money, until they had enough money for the rest of their lives. the Badger didn’tsneak off during the night, leaving the Junk Man to collect junk again. Friends are important. Friends that are helpful, thoughtful and loyal are better. Touloulou and the Badger all contain most/ all three of the things that make a friend better. The Badger was helpful/thoughtful, and Touloulou is helpful, thoughtful, and loyal. Do you have (a) friend(s) like that?
