FAQ Procedures What is the class schedule for Fall 2023? Visit our Schedule page for days and times for our classes. We offer both virtual and in-person classes at our Morris Plains, NJ, location. What online platform does VSA Future use for virtual classes? VSA Future uses Zoom video conferencing for its classes. Each student receives a schedule with Zoom meeting IDs. We use the Waiting Room feature to ensure student safety.Each VSA Future family receives a family Dropbox folder, where student schedules, account info, and student-specific files are available for download. What software, equipment, and materials will my child need? All students should have access to a computer, laptop, or tablet with video and sound capabilities. VSA Future recommends that students use headphones (with microphone capabilities, when possible) for best sound quality and for focus. Students should have the Zoom app installed. Students should also have pencil and paper with them during class to take notes and use as scratch paper. Additional class materials will be emailed to parents as needed. What are the rules of the virtual classroom? We ask that students pay attention during class time, and close other applications and files on the computer. We also request that students avoid eating and drinking during class.For second graders and above, only the student should be at the computer during class.Whenever possible, students should sit alone in a quiet room and wear headphones to help them concentrate. Parents should allow children to learn independently in virtual class without additional help, beyond providing technical assistance when needed.We request that family members limit their presence during class time; when siblings or family members appear in front of or near the screen, it affects the attention of other students. Curriculum What is the ratio of teachers to students? Our class sizes range from 4–12 students, with one teacher and one teaching assistant per class. How are classes organized? Beginning in 3rd grade, our classes are typically organized by academic level, not by students’ grade level in school. This ensures your child receives personalized feedback tailored to their specific learning style and academic needs. Students are placed into levels through a placement test VSA offers after registration. How are students placed into classes? For new students, class placement is determined by a placement test after registration. You will receive an email about the placement test and sign up for specific class times after the placement test. What is the weekly curriculum? Our course pages by subject — English, Reading & Writing; Math; Vocabulary; and Public Speaking — provide detailed information on what the curriculum for each subject looks like.You can also browse class descriptions by grade here. Is homework assigned? Beginning in 3rd grade, students receive homework to help them hone the skills they learn in the classroom in all classes. Grades K–2 do not receive English or Math homework. Public Speaking students are assigned homework to write speeches and rehearse speeches for their in-class presentations. What are the qualifications of VSA teachers? Do they go through a rigorous selection process? At VSA Future, we use a rigorous selection process to ensure that our teachers can provide your child with the care and education they need.Our extensively trained educators have each spent 5–20 years in the classroom. We have received excellent feedback from students and parents regarding our teachers. How do I know what section to enroll my child in? For new students, class placement is determined by a placement test after registration. You will receive an email about the placement test and sign up for specific class times after the placement test.For current students, parents can check their child’s class schedule in the family Dropbox folder for the Spring 2023 class level. For Fall 2023 your child will take the next level up. E.g., if a child takes D-W in Spring 2023, they will take E-W in Fall 2023.Current students may be placed into alternative levels in discussion with the director. Registration How do I register for virtual or in-person classes? Class enrollment is offer on a rolling basis, until classes are full. Our classes run for 36 weeks from September–June, in accordance with the school year. The Fall 2023 semester begins on September 7, 2023.Register online. When you sign up, you’ll choose your classes and desired class times, for either virtual or in-person classes. After registration, you will receive an email with your invoice.Dicount promotions are based on the date tuition payment is received. Your class spot is guaranteed after full payment is received. If you decide to add additional classes after your initial registration, the additional tuition will be calculated at the tuition rate of the time you added the classes, not the rate of your initial registration. Can students outside of New Jersey sign up for classes? Yes! Our virtual courses are available to all students, regardless of their location. How does payment work? After you register, you will receive an invoice with payment instructions via email. Your spot and any tuition promotional discounts are not guaranteed until payment is received. Does the course tuition qualify for the Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account? VSA Future will provide a receipt for classes. Whether or not the tuition qualifies depends on your company’s Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account policy. Please consult your company for more information. Is there a sibling discount? Yes. After the first child, the second child receives a 5% discount. Any subsequent siblings receive a 10% discount each. Is there a referral bonus?
