Sacagawea Biography Sacagawea Biography By 4th Grader Have you ever seen a gold-colored dollar coin? Well it is has young Native American woman carrying a baby on her back. So who is she? This started when Thomas Jefferson wanted more land, so he sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the land. While they were exploring, they had to draw pictures of plants and animals and made maps as they went along. They carried special tools to help them as they kept going. Many men had signed up and one man was Sacagawea’s husband. So Sacagawea went along. While they were exploring, Sacagawea showed her bravery, helpfulness, and kindness. Sacagawea was very brave. She showed she was very brave sometime around 1799 and 1801. She was captured by a group of Hidatsa Indians and taken away from her people when she was 12 years old. Another reason Sacagawea was brave was, she also kept her baby safe and saved the notebooks and tools that would have floated away when their canoe tipped over. Sacagawea helped others. She helped the explorers find a route through the mountains so they wouldn’t get hurt or lost. Sacagawea helped others by speaking to the group of Nez Perce Indians so they would stick together and so no one would get hurt or lost. Sacagawea showed kindness to people around her. She showed kindness even though she was taken away from her people. She and her people were still kind to the explorers by letting them buy horses. She should kindness to the explorers by she shared her memories to guide them to the Yellowstone River. Sacagawea was very brave, helpful, and kind on this journey with Lewis and Clark. People honored her by making a coin for her. The Sacagawea Dollar coin was first released for circulation on January 27, 2000 with the purpose of honoring Sacagawea, the Shoshone woman who accompanied Lewis and Clark on the journey. They also honored her with a statue. Erected by the women of the United States in memory of the Lewis and Clark expedition, and in honor of the pioneer mother of Oregon. Sacagawea was a very brave, helpful, kind person on that journey.
