Young Learners Thrive at VSA Camp OUR SUNSHINE CURRICULUM IS SPECIALLY CRAFTED FOR OUR YOUNGEST CAMPERS. ENGLISH For our youngest students in English, virtual learning classes are designed to help them learn phonics, reading, spelling, and grammar. Students learn through a combination of teacher guidance, peer support, and self-directed practice.Improve your phonics knowledge by practicing vowel, consonant, blend, and digraph sounds.Decodable books are a great way to work on fluency and strengthen phonics knowledge.Learn how to identify story and picture elements, such as plot, characters, and setting, using comprehension strategies.Learn the different parts of speech and the rules of grammar. READING & WRITING Reading & Writing students become excellent readers and writers. Poetry, fables, plays, fiction, and nonfiction are all exposed to campers. Students identify characters, settings, and major events in a story through teacher-led modeling and guided reading. They practice writing narratives, opinion pieces, and informative texts each week, using a variety of handwriting and dictation. MATHEMATICS Lesser-known math concepts such as counting, number recognition, and shape recognition are also practiced. Our expert teachers help students solve word problems using a variety of methods.
